The story behind my first yet to be published novel

Writer: jwklaeisjwklaeis

Two years ago I was walking on the beach at dusk when I had my an idea for my first novel. Perhaps it was due to the light of the setting sun, or maybe the rush of the water past the only ear that I could hear out of after I almost died less than a month prior. But I had an idea, and as I gathered rock after rock on the lonely beach as the world turned an inky blue I became convinced that I had struck gold.

It took me over five months to sit down at a computer to begin to write the first story that I would ever finish. The characters came to me as if hearing my call next to the ocean. The terrified girl inside me that had suffered from an illness that would have ended in death if not for the good grace of a doctor, took a chance on finding the reason why she lived.

Before I knew it, the words started to form on the page in November of 2019. By March of 2020 I began to hit the story hard. The characters in my mind started to reflect not only that of my own personal experience, but of the experiences of the world around me. I hid reality in fantasy, disguising my own personal physical and mental torture within a fantastical vampire adventure story with love at its core.

December 2020 arrived and with it, the final pages of my novel were expressed. Every part of me was healed. Two surgeries and a novel later, the journey was almost done. Then on December 31, 2020 I finished the beginning of my novel as the new year began.

From one idea that sprung into my mind as I turned rocks in my hand, to the eventual turning pages of a book that has yet to be published, I cannot say enough how excited I am to bring this novel into the world!

A story that ultimately ended up, like a vampire, giving me a second chance at life.
